A Consistent Product:
All phenols found in oregano oil are aromatic hydrocarbons,
showing a high volatile grade and are responsible for the characteristic
“oregano” flavor. Two notable contributors to smell and taste are the aromatic phenols Carvacrol and Thymol.
Due to their high volatile grade and pungent taste, these phenols are
instrumental in the efficacy of oregano extract as an appetizer. Our quality control procedures ensure that
Regano® brand products maintain consistent levels of naturally produced
Carvacrol and Thymol. With this assurance,
Regano® brand products are “A Source You Can Trust!™”
Oregano is a hardy perennial herb growing in many countries
(Europe, Africa, North and South America). Oregano is widely used in the
flavoring of human food products (well known as the “pizza herb”) and alcoholic
beverages. Members of the genus Origanum (Labiatae family) are characterized of
a unique flavor due to the essential oils they contain. As various researches
have demonstrated, the best quality of oregano, with high concentration of essential
oils, is found in the Mediterranean region and especially at the coast of Minor
Asia (Turkey) and in Greece (continental and islands).
Consistency is key...
Under the name “oregano” there are perhaps as many as 40
different species, most of which are not rich in essential oil, smell and
flavor. It is well known world-wide that the best quality of oregano is the one
grown in the Greek mountains (Origanum vulgare). Ralco Nutrition holds exclusive marketing
rights to the only viable source of Greek Oregano. Ralco has a professional relationship with
the Greek supplier, Ecopharm Hellas, S.A., who has developed a special hybrid
variety of the herb (Origanum vulgare ssp hirtum or Origanum heracleoticum)
with distinctive smell and taste due to high essential oil content. Because of Ecopharm’s main occupation
(extraction of oregano oil for use in animals as a feed additive) they saw the
need to methodize the cultivation of oregano, in order to obtain consistent
high quality oils. The oregano cultures
are inspected by Ecopharm’s own agriculture experts continuously during the
year. By the end of June, to the middle of July, only the best quality of the
mature yield is selected for harvest and transferred to the factory, in order
to produce the high standard essential oil extract. Don’t be fooled by imitations!
Other suppliers of Oregano extracts have limited ability to
control quality.Wild crafted Oregano is
harvested inconsistently at varying periods, thus providing an inconsistent
product. An inconsistent product will produce inconsistent results!
What determines quality?...
As protein is to alfalfa, and as octane is to gasoline,
Carvacrol and Thymol are to oregano. The excellent quality of our oregano is
being well accepted in the international market of extracts, passing
successfully all quality tests. Quality is achieved by selection, consistency
of production, and strict quality control procedures. Our oregano quality is determined by:
• Selection - 100% cultivated pure Greek oregano (Origanum vulgare ssp. hirtum).
• Consistency – Our oil is produced the same way each time, being controlled from planting to the
pharmaceutical grade finished product.
• Strict QC - Quality Controlled by levels of Carvacrol (75.0 – 84.0%) and Thymol (0.7 – 4.0%).
